Mayor opens BlueSquare's new tier 4 data centre in Milton Keynes
The Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Jan Lloyd, officially opened BlueSquare Data’s next generation ‘Tier 4’ data centre in Milton Keynes on March 5th 2009.
At a ceremony attended by over 100 invited guests, Councillor Lloyd formally declared the centre open. The event was hosted by Benjamin Cohen, Technology Correspondent at Channel 4 News. “Digital services are increasingly becoming a key part of Britain's new economy. Nearly everything we do every day in some way relies on technology. Bandwidth delivered from data centres like this is the oil that drives the digital economy” said Cohen. “BlueSquare:MK is a vital next step in our development as an eminent data centre partner for our clients. It gives us the Tier 4 quality and security our clients demand and its location will allow us to provide disaster recovery capability outside the M25 corridor, while also opening up exciting new potential in the Midlands,” said founder and Technical Director Matthew Munson. Originally designed to meet the standards and security requirements of a leading German bank, BlueSquare: MK has been completely refitted with interior and exterior systems comprising very high N+N (two of everything) redundancy levels. The site has dual diverse substations, as well as multiple diverse dark fibre providers offering choices in connectivity. Blue Square: MK also has a link to Manchester, providing northern interconnect and additional international access if required.
